Anja Fredell (b. 1990 Torsby, Värmland) is based in Gothenburg where she also studied at HDK-Valand Academy (2019-2021).

Fredells works departs from a history of craft and expressionism. Through different materials she uses colour as a language. She creates works that appear to be in motion with a sensual layer. Her earlier works are colourful and about lust and desire. Involved ripened fruit and flowers about to burst open. Lately a darker tone has entered her world of expression and it is now possible to see the backyard of this pleasure garden. Dark silhouettes that looks like spiders or plants have taken place in front of the playful surfaces. Hybrid shapes that are threatening and melancholic but at the same time calm and acceptant.

There is no beauty without the acceptance of perishability.

Fredells works are represented in private collections as well Gävle kommun, Stockholm Stad, Allingsås kommun, Göteborg Stad, Västra Götalandsregionen, Marks kommun, Umeå kommun and Uppsala Kommun, Ulricehamns kommun and Finspångs kommun.
