SIRI CARLÉN

Born 1986, lives and works in Stockholm.

“My work is a reflection of my memory. A tool for saving, sorting and clarifying. I need pictures to remember and have always made pictures to process and understand. Important crossroads, moments and experiences processed through the body.

My thoughts are unstable, but muscle memory is reliable. In my head, several channels flow in parallel, roar forward, intertwine and tangle. The noise is constant and makes it difficult to sort out and understand. When I do, I don't think. But presence and sharpness can arise in parts of consciousness that are not in the brain. Navigating through goosebumps and shivers. I feel moments and impressions through skin, muscles and bones.

I save moments and experiences in the body. The project has sprung from a state of transformation. Equal parts beautiful, painful and terrifying. A transformation from the inside to the outside. I am processing a long period of being stuck, and the long-awaited freedom that follows. The freedom that felt better as longing. Not as emptiness." -Siri Carlén
